Stretch Marks, Insomnia And Other Plagues I Escaped

At this point I am hoping that the next post I'll publish will be a birth announcement, but since it is not happening yet (even though she is making a repeated effort to rip the side of my belly open and crawl out that way), I have decided to write about the good things in this pregnancy. No, your eyes are not deceiving you. I did write "good things" and "pregnancy" in one sentence and didn't really mean it in an ironic way (at least I don't think so).

While there were many plagues that accompanied me on this journey, some things I have escaped unscathed.

No stretch marks: I have come across statistics claiming that almost 90% of pregnant women develop stretch marks. Guess what - I am one of those lucky bitches who don't. Not with my first, and at this point I think it is safe to say not with my second pregnancy either. I didn't do anything to prevent them. My skin is naturally dry and even then I don't moisturize more than once a week, because I am lazy. And while I try not to dwell on shallow things like appearance and appreciate the "you are a tigress, you earned your stripes" kind of a pep talk, I am also just plainly happy I don't have to deal with this.

Sleep: Considering the first 4-5 months of hyperemesis and horrible never ending nausea (have no doubts, it is still present and strong at 38+ weeks), I was lucky enough not to have to work. The kid was in daycare 4 days a week which allowed me to basically hibernate for 9 months. I know that many women struggle with insomnia when pregnant. I am happy to report I had no problem to sleep at any given time, day or night. I had to get up and go to pee at least once a night, and I was woken at times by aches and pains related to pregnancy, but all in all my sleep was intact. It has gotten worse in the past couple of weeks. I hurt a lot more. It keeps me up at night at this point. But all in all, I can't complain.

Limited leg cramps: I only had a few night episodes with cramps in my legs, both when pregnant with Kai and now. Considering how excruciatingly painful these are, I can certainly appreciate how lucky I got not to suffer from them regularly.

Boobs: They are big. And I love it. Right now they don't appear to be so because of the relative proportions to the huge belly I happen to carry around with me, but every time I put on a C-cup bra I know!

Built-In Shelf: Look at that picture! How convenient is that? Works great for my Kindle, too - it is at a perfect angle to read hands free while eating ice-cream.

I am glad to present you with this optimistic post. If this baby doesn't come out soon, I can't promise you another one in the same spirit. Cheers!

  1. Shout out for no stretch marks. I'm totally fine with avoiding that whole thing. And seriously, it is the least your body could do for you at this point! Hope the little one makes an appearance soon.
